I'm so glad this wasn't published. Getting to see the absolutely exquisite pencil work is an amazing gift! I know you don't hold onto much (if any) of your own work, JB, but you really should frame that double page spread. For many reasons, not the least of which is the (no pun intended) perfect Storm on the bottom of page 3.

Today’s page confirms my guess about these Sentinels... and I have a very good feeling the big reveal is coming tomorrow! Can’t wait!!

Kudos, JB! Your "civilian" art looks as good (or better) than the superhero stuff!

I think I have mentioned before how much I appreciate seeing superheroes and villains in action alongside civilians in "regular" settings. In that context, mutants and murderous mechanical menaces are all the more amazing! (I recall a writer observing that some comic book artists almost always seem to draw heroes and villains bounding about in metal bunkers instead of placing the characters in the "real" world.)

I also dig the revealing details of the battle in the background.

One writer I know tells of working with a hotshot artist who asked for more “soda shop scenes like Claremont and Byrne used to do.” Such pages were provided in the plot, but when the art came back they’d been replaced with a Danger Room session. When asked why, the artist replied “Quiet pages don’t sell.”

I love these suburban scenes mixed with battle. It's a great dynamic that doesn't get used in comics very much. Also, I gotta say, John's depiction of despair with Elaine especially in panel 5 is outstanding

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: I love the quiet pages the best.  I wish there was an entire issue of them to be honest.

The quiet/civilian scenes are clearly the hardest thing to draw since you do not see them in books drawn by "young guns". 

The ability to draw an actual house and a car next to the X-Men and these new sentinels is amazing. The work really stands above the typical splash page books of today.
