Stack of lumber!
------------------------------

I thought the same thing. Who else would envision that? The guy is just good. I know JB is used to praise from fans, but 40 years out and still getting it (maybe more?) is pretty remarkable.

Yeah, the stack of lumber caught my eye as well.

There are a bunch of details that really sell it. The stack of lumber, along with the girders. The little seam on Cyclops' glove. The same truck in the background that we saw in the background when Jean first encountered the Sentinel in the last ish.

And on top of that we have the brilliance of how Wolverine looks in that first panel. The hands are so good. One grabbing his chest, the other holding himself up with Scott's knee.

This gang of goons deserves to die for what they had planned for Jean
and if Logan finds out it might be one of those, “now it’s my turn”
moments

>>

My thoughts as well... And they'd have it coming too. Last panel has me cautiously optimistic... for now at least.

I'm thinking that Logan and Scott are united in their concern for Jean but honestly, before Jean died it seemed they had earned a certain respect for one another (didn't change Logan's feelings) but I got the sense Logan wasn't actively trying for Jean as much...

Guess we'll see...

I recently purchased the TPB of "Not Brand Echh!" and it has both the original books and some new pieces. The new ones seemed to miss the point entirely, which the original stories have; not just that it's making fun with the Marvel Universe but there is never a dull moment! Those stories take longer to read because of all the details, ridiculous (and wonderful) as they are.

I look at your art on Elsewhen and see the same details as those classic stories. There's never a dull moment! I can't just look over it, go "meh", and speed along through the daily page. Everything has detail, character, art, and everything contributes to the story. I hope that this isn't insulting - Not Brand Echh being a parody and all - but the comparison is, to me, unmistakable, and well worth perusing every inch of every page.

I’m never insulted when compared to good art!

My fascination with details comes primarily from two influences, British editorial cartoonist Giles and Wally Wood. Both were masters of keeping the eyes entertained.

I love that you thought to have different
sound effects for the different guns used.

I really love the Scott/Logan chemistry here. It's respectful, but they are *not* cut from the same cloth.

In your mind, in this series, how old is Wolverine?

Depends on when it takes place. If it’s contemporaneous to the original run, he’d be in his sixties. If it’s happening “now”, over 100.

I like that the Logan - Scott relationship is where it should be....Wolverine's feelings for Jean aren't overblown or defining who he is.  Logan isn't being overly territorial and all the history that was lumped on top of his character, including his obsession with Jean, isn't there yet.

Cyclops: "Wolverine! You saved me! .."

Wolverine: "Yeah... an' you tell... anybody, an' I'll kill you myself!"

****

Just perfect! This just captures the dynamic between the two so wonderfully.

You saved Wolverine on your original run on the book, and it's so gratifying to
see you giving him a great reset in this series.

Gotcha, thanks! "Significantly older than the rest" is precise enough for me. He acts like it. You give him a bit of a Sgt. Rock vibe compared to an equally serious hero like Scott.

Ah, Wolverine! Now all I have to do is expunge the greatest atrocity perpetrated on the character—that Logan is not his real name.

Maybe I’ll have him tell Mariko his first name. Let’s see...Timothy? Vernon? Yahudi?
