At last! The unabashed, unedited story of Jean Grey and the Phoenix. Told by one person - the one who determined the path of Phoenix and Dark Phoenix.

My wish is that Mr. Dave Cockrum might have been able to contribute, even if only his plans, if not a guest page or two. No offense, Mr. Byrne, and I know this is solely your story. But you have a tendency to verisimilitude - nothing silly like Ororo and Logan falling love and running off to get married.

I am breathless with antici....

Excellent page, but I have to confess that I thought, "Poor Jean - stuck wearing that same black cocktail dress for forty years..."

‘Bout a year, actually. And just a few hours for her.

This fact (in this series) is about as close to actual time-travel as I'm likely to
experience.

...Because just realizing that what you say here is true is an "experience."

JB, when you revisit a "historical" scene like this, do you look back at the old issue for reference?  Or is it just from memory?

As I was working on a page with Spider-Man and Susan Richards I found myself realizing there is another reason to be glad I didn’t end up taking this to Marvel. Altho I had every assurance of being LEFT ALONE, we can be darn sure the non-X editorial offices wouldn’t be so “hands off”. I’m sure I would have found myself having to clear every guest star thru their home offices.

JB, I'm perfectly happy reading X-MEN ELSEWHEN on my iPad. I wonder though... Is it possible that when you're done, it's something IDW could publish in collected form?

Once again, I find myself going over all the detail, particularly the little nuances with faces, with each new page. Wonderful work, JB!
