One of the things I love about JB's work is the effort put into creating appropriate environments for the characters. Clothing, hairstyles, body language, and environment are - to me - where JB outshines everyone else.

••

I dunno about EVERYBODY else, tho I appreciate the thought!

A special moment in my career came when I asked Archie Goodwin if he would care to write an intro for one of the NEXT MEN trades. He did, and in the process told people to pay attention to how I drew desks. Archie noted that each individual who had a desk, had one that was appropriate to his/her character.

As Archie said, warming my cockles, that wasn't just drawing, that was writing.

I think that's an opinion with which we'd all agree: that you write with words AND drawings both. Very perceptive of Mr. Goodwin to say so, but he was apparently remarkable in many ways.

Thanks JB for giving us this. Only just noticed we had a new Elsewhen thread.

Love the thought you put into fairly insignificant characters. Even the three councilmen are well crafted and defined.

Love the effect in the penultimate panel for the teleportation. The Doom/Kurt interactions are great.

Seems like comic books, when done that way --- telling the story with both the art and text ---  can be something unique.

The images flash past so quickly in film, the eye doesn't really get the chance to wander around and explore.

Not to twist it to a negative, but I have certainly noticed in some comic books where it seemed as if the art was there (first and foremost) with the story/words as an afterthought.  It's rather jarring.

Normally I'd be sad to know that 'Elsewhen' was coming to an end, especially with the knowledge that some of the storylines won't be resolved.  However, for some time now, I'd accepted that #31 was probably the last and had focussed on just feeling grateful for 31 free issues of the best comic I've read in years. So to come here today and find that we are 4 pages into #32 already feels like the most incredible bonus ever!  I won't bore anyone with my personal issues, but there have been a lot of endings in my life this year.  Seeing issue #32 is like a surprise meeting with a loved one you thought you would never see again, and having one last unexpected chance for good times together.  That might sound a bit over the top, but it just makes me really happy to see 'Elsewhen' back, even if it is only briefly.  Many thanks JB!

Immediately!

Thanks for this, JB.

Is that a Photoshop effect in panel 4, JB?

JB, while I’m sorry to see this project come to an end, I’m grateful for the 31 (or 32) issues that you gave us.

I’m frankly astounded that you even took on this endeavor in the first place. It amounts to an insane amount of work that I have to assume you didn’t get paid for. The level of detail in every page is incredible, and IMO, it is some of the finest work of your legendary career. You never cut any corners, or compromised the integrity of the art in any way. All I can do now is applaud your skill and patience, and admire the dedication to your craft. Bravo sir, and thank you.

Wow! I was out of town last week and just discovered this. I know how I'll spend a few minutes each morning for the rest of the month! Thanks, JB!
(sorry about all of the exclamation marks, but they're warranted)

I'd be happy switching to one page a week, but I'm a kind of delayed pleasure freak!
