Richard and Wendy “met” thru the Marvel letter columns. Reading one of her missives, Richard decided to write to the address Wendy had given.

According to Shooter, this was one of his reasons for banning the publication of full addresses! He did not want to see any repeats of such occurrences.

On the subject of people phoning the Office, there was one guy who would call regularly, always asking for people by their credits box names. Jazzy Johnny Romita. Cheerful Chris Claremont. Even Jocular John Byrne. (Chris had originally dubbed me “Jarring”, but Rascally Roger Stern changed it.)

Oh, and Rog also tried to convince Chris to change to “charismatic”, since “cheerful” isn’t really alliterative!

I had a letter printed during JB's Wonder Woman run. It was the first time I used the internet for such a thing. I think it was a message system from AOL or some such on the DC webpage.

I had bought a pile of '50s-'60s sf/fantasy digests once from a second-hand shop near where I worked and one had a letter from someone at an address on the same street as the shop. It (the magazine issue) was circa 1960 but I wondered if these had been their magazines and possibly if they were still there... but being pretty shy I never did bother to look at the apartment building (across the street and up a bit) to see if their name might be shown at the entrance. Perhaps they'd died and their stuff was in the shop for that reason? Probably some reason they'd be disposing of their magazines twenty five plus years later on, including the one with their letter (if that was the source).

The other thing was I had a 1941 Whiz Comics with the name of someone in it whom my Dad remembered and had worked with!

I'd never have thought of 'bugging' anyone at comics publisher offices, I was even quite nervous the one time I phoned DC in the mid '90s when having been invited to!
