I'm just reading, or rereading in some cases, from #227 to #250 (remembering also Iron Man #131-132). Stern to Mantlo have it as a regular sub-plot. I'm undecided if I appreciate all the revelations though, nothing much gets permanently resolved, more grist for the future mill being thrown out there and stretched (questions more than answers). I don't think the abused child stuff works well like it did for say Flash Thompson in Spider-Man. I guess it was supposed to evoke more pity for the plight of Banner more than really answer some outstanding question? At least I don't remember that question about his basic character having been asked except perhaps by the Hulk's hatred and disgust toward Banner (as part of, or separate yet not able to be fully seperate).
