I was offered AWC first, as writer and artist. At the same time, I picked up SHE-HULK. I decided it would be better to have only two monthlies that consumed that much of my energies, so I elected to only write AVENGERS.

By that logic, judging by what Claremont and Byrne did with The Phoenix, they didn't like her character very much either.  Or what JB did to the Vision, Invisible Woman, and Kara (in GENERATIONS) he must not have liked those characters very much either.

Ridiculous.

As JB (and The Mills Brothers) have said on more than one occasion:
You always hurt the one you love.

No.  I like the storylines on his Avengers run.  I just didn't understand why Hawkeye would just quit the Avengers and go and train the Great Lakes.

Matt, you are so wrong if you think I would attack JB.  I love his work.  I love his Vision , his Sue Storm, his Pheonix, and I have spoke about in many time how much I love his Generations.  You're out of line.

I would be out of line if I were, indeed, attacking you, Sam.  I'm not.  I'm saying the specific notion that John doesn't like Hawkeye much because of what he wrote in AWC is ridiculous on its face. I think one of the biggest compliments I could give JB is that he's written characters he's loved and characters that he hasn't liked so much and I couldn't really tell you which was which.  In other words, he's never let his personal feelings about a character get in the way of his professional duty to them.

He was angry about having US Agent forced onto the team and having his leadership undermined on the team he founded.  It had been building before Mr.Byrne started on the book.

 If he didn't like Hawkeye would have quietly written him off the book.  I do not consider this mind reading, I think he has enough respect for the readers and the characters to not abuse them for kicks.

<Again I'm not saying I don't like JB work>

Hawkeye gets his ass handed him by US Agent, and then quits.  After, Hawkeye -and Mockingbird- goes to the Great Lakes to train a group of heroes to comfort his ego.

Victor, it wasn't clear to me and that is the reason why I stated it, but thanks for making me understand that-- instead of making a sarcastic remark.

Reread the books and its pretty obvious.   Agent winning the fight with Hawkeye did not mean Hawkeye was weak.  He was unaware that US Agent had super strength. So of course he was going to be thrashed quickly in a straight up fight.   .

Thanks again man, I emailed you with my regards.  I will reread them.  I never made the comment to blast JB on his work.  I think he did a wonderful job on it and his treatment to the Scarlet Witch, the Vision, and the Human Torch.  I love the way he transitioned She-Hulk from a serious character in the books and her comic self in Sensational.  I love the way he treated Tigra and I love the triangle between Wonder Man, Wanda, and the Vision.  I love the way he handles Hank and Wasp, they were fun reads.  He did a great job on West Coast Avengers or Avengers West it was good.
