Whatever the reason, that's how it comes off when I'm looking at this page these days. A documentary style of framing the scene.

Error or not, for me it makes it more real and dynamic than perfectly framed shots would have been.

It would be interesting to see JB do a re-imagining of an interior page.

Assuming this gets sold, I'm wondering if Terry and Tom are in line for some compensation?

Mr. Byrne, I have always wondered how fast you and Claremont had to re-work your original idea.  It must have been pretty last second because I have seen the original penciled pages posted before, and the start of the next issue.  Must have made you crazy.

What a neat idea!

I wish I was rich :(  There are a few things I'd love to have you do.

Oh well, maybe one day a regular, single figure commission, if I am lucky.

We were working on real world schedules back then, so I had, in fact, already finished 138 and was into 139 when the boom got lowered on 137. We had, altogether, about three weeks to turn in the new pages. Not so bad, except that I also had to redo pages in 138, and this threw me slightly off schedule on 139.

This brings to mind a question I've been wanting to ask for a while. Which takes longer:  a page like this, broken down into panels, or a full page drawing.  And why?

If we're talking about a from-scratch page, a splash or multiple panels takes me about the same amount of time. Same space to fill, basically.

In the case of a recreation, a page like this takes longer (and that's not counting the lettering).

Nice. I was going to ask a question on here about whether you can 'channel' yourself from the past the same way you say you channel Ditko, Kirby, Colan etc. The asnwer is clearly yes. Makes me wonder whether i could get a recreation commision of my favourite X-Men panel - #136, page 11, panel 4.

Very cool.

Chris and you were and still are my favorite creative team. followed by Michelinie/Romita jr/Layton and Stern/Romita jr, Stern/Byrne, Claremont/Smith & Claremont/Romita jr. After that it would be Bill Mantlo/Sal Buscema.

Lee/Kirby were awesome too of course.

But you and Chris were doing great comics for the kids of my generation, and we loved it.
