If that's the direction they take, and by some miracle it actually works, can Batman be a Skrull too?

There's very little likelihood that that Wolverine is the real one, but yes, that would make your Wolverine a Skrull, JB. (unless someone can find a more recent time that Wolverine wore that costume for the Skrulls to have kidnapped him at). It looks like he's just a Skrull.

Some of the Skrulls have been shown to be brainwashed enough that they really think they're the character though, so it could still be a fun limited series.

Not really. Plant this idea into the Marvel Universe -- not merely that Skrulls
have occasionally impersonated very select people for short periods of time,
but that they have impersonated large numbers of people for long periods -
- and you have effectively scuttled the whole shebang. From this point
forward, no matter how this storyline resolves itself, anyone and everyone
could be a Skrull. No reason to ever allow yourself to get involved in the
character's lives again. You'll just never know who's real.

That's a part of the reason the Clone Saga irritated.
"I've been reading the adventures of the WRONG Spider-Man!?!"
Outrage ensues.

I'm never clear enough when I post here.

I meant that if we assume that none of the implied long-term replacements are real, then a limited series about a Skrull Wolverine who thinks he's the real Wolverine and acts like the old Wolverine could be a fun limited series. I'm not suggesting that it would be fun if it turns out that this Wolverine is the real one, or that any of the Skrulls that were impersonating people should turn out to have been impersonating them further back than New Avengers #1.

(I can't seem to get this to not be italic)

I think that the entire "Secret Invasion" storyline is weak.  But, then again, I am still stuck in 1979 - 1985.  I just read the "Trial of Reed Richards" FF issue to my 5-year-old son.  Now, THAT is how you do a cool story about mega-powerful aliens mixing it up with super heroes (plus a cameo from Odin and Mr. Byrne himself).  There is nothing in Secret Invasion that holds a candle to that.

By the way, great Wolverine...  Comparing any other artist's Wolverine to yours is like comparing any other rock band to the Beatles.  There have been other great ones, but no one has surpassed.
