John Byrne
Okay, now I am curious. You grant Doom some degree of sorcery --
which he does have, by the way -- but then you restrict the use to
Superman and Wonder Woman? Why couldn't he have taken down all the
heroes with magic?
I figure Doom would have used the element of surprise to take out the
powerhouses first -- that means at least Superman first. I imagine that
Diana would have gone into action with Superman as point. She warrior
would not have have waited for Barry or Hal and just sat back strategizing
Batman style. Most likely, the JLA decide NOT to tackle Doom all at once.
So Doom takes out Clark and Diana who might have been expecting a
technological attack. But Doom, thinking a couple of steps ahead figures
that he can't use the element of surprise again, and that Barry -- having
the fastest reflexes -- would recover from his surprise before Hal. So he
takes Barry out next.
Probably had a hard-as-diamond force field ready for the Flash to smash
into.
Hal, who is not normally one to loose his cool would have held back
staying in in flight, far enough from Doom to feel safe from a hex. Hal
never takes his eyes off Victor and neglects to observe a mini-Doom
controlled robot who sprays him with yellow-tinged nerve gas.
I admit, had this been the 1940's Green Lantern, Victor might have used a
second spell, but the good doctor is more subtle: he's likely to have
investigated his opponents and learned of their individual weaknesses.
Now, this piece shows Doom's character: he must know that The Batman
is skulking about but allows his attention to be diverted. He's inspecting
(admiring, most probably) an actual Greek amazon -- neglecting what
might be a superior, certainly a more devious opponent.
The Batman is probably going to attack Doom psychologically, a-la
Hannibal Lecter, to allow his fellow JLAers the time to recover. He could
also be aiming to sweep up Diana's golden lasso and ensnare Doom,
forcing him to remain immobile while Bruce revives his teammates.
Does it show that I'm starved for Byrne writing?
I bloody well hope so!!!

Okay...that is one of the coolest things I have seen in a
long time.
Nice splash page, now do the rest of the issue.

OK, enough of these awesome commissions. Someone at DC or Marvel get their heads out of their rears and put JB on some serious superhero action!
Just kidding about enough of the commissions...keep 'em coming!

Why DC & Marvel don't back up a Brinks truck full of cash to JB's house to do this book is beyond me! This is one of the most exciting comic images I've seen in ages. Fantastic!

What would be awesome is if DC and Marvel gave JB his own
little crossover universe to play in, where he has freedom
to recreate both universes in one.
Would be an interesting question: if both universes'
history unfolded together, would it alter one or the other
in any way?

JB is not a team player; he refuses to suck like everyone else does.

Wow, this is bar far one of the best commissions ever!
I agree with everyone about the rendering of Superman, but lloking at Christos's enlargement, it's Flash that's the coolest to me. A perfect expression of both desperation and anger at the same time. Very cool.

One of the best, JB. At first I thought Jerry Ordway inked Superman.
