Really nice..love Jack of Hearts!  Are the blacks on Ghost Rider lighter or is it just the pic, or my screen?

I don`t know you go about figuring out the character placement and attitude for best effect like that.

••

In group shots, I start by figuring out which character is going to take up the most space. Normally, given this grouping, that would be Angel, but obviously Giant-Man trumps him this time! So, once I have laid in an outline for the most space-consuming character, I then fill in the negative space around him/her with figures whose own powers/schticks best lend themselves to the shape of the spaces.

Strictly speaking Black Goliath/Giant-Man II never formally joined the Champions either did he?

Great work!

Am I mis-remembering or did Marvel actually lose the rights to the Champions (the team name, not the characters) a few years back?

Not many people can draw that Goliath outfit in a way that "works" for me.  JB can and did!  It's neat how the big man and Hercules feel "heavier" than everyone else, too.

Nice one, JB.

Lots of detail, but not too crowded.

I like the comparison between the thick line on Giant-Man and the slick line of Iceman. Has a bit of a Klaus Janson vibe to me.

This is only your first 'Tasha, JB?  You draw her so well, it's hard to believe no one's requested her before.  After seeing her in this, I bet her count will increase!

You are a master of density; the flying characters appear light, while Herc and Black Goliath are not just "drawn big", they FEEL big, appropriately massive.

I hope you properly penalized the commissioner for making you draw George Perez's f*cking Jack of Hearts costume (just kidding, commissioner -- but WATCH IT!); charged him double or triple or somethin'.

Great work!  Keep 'em coming!

Whoever commissioned this is a man after my own heart. Outstanding JB!

Can't believe that I'm the only one who gets the "idea" behind this. The Champions was originally pitched as a trio including Angel, Iceman and Black Goliath (he guest-starred in the book later on).  The editors changed the line-up before it went to series, but Jack of Hearts was also intended to join the group after the series launched.

I've read this over the years in interviews somewhere, perhaps Alter Ego or Back Issue, either way this one really grabs me and my hats off to Mr. Byrne and the lucky owner.
