I second Wallace. The second one feels more... modern and dynamic to me! Dynamic I think is pretty obvious, as for more modern well, I don't know how to explain... the way of inking maybe...

Those inks, I feel a kind of Italian influence,...

Sebastien Roy: "JB, do you use something in particular (i.e. tools) to draw the symbol on Superman's chest?"

••

JB: "All freehand."

"Two little fishies, swimming in the sea; soon they will an emblem be."

Sorry, couldn't resist; based on JB's explanation of how he drew the "S" all those years ago...

Great Ceaser's Ghost! Very cool! On first glance it looked familiar, and then I read the bit about it being a recreation of the promo.

Pure Byrne, indisputably, but the punching arm evokes a Kirbyesque sense of action and destruction, while something about the expression on the face, oddly enough, says "Sekowsky" to me...like something out of an early JLA.

This is the first time I see that promotional poster. And I love both versions, the new one and the old one.

Mr. Byrne, do you only use Pitt pens, or are there other materials you use heavily?

••

Mostly PITT pens. The recent ROMULANS: SCHISM was done almost entirely with a real brush, dipped in ink, tho. I just felt the need to scratch that itch again.

I love that poster.I remember seeing it all those years ago and asked the shop owner if I could buy it from him. He promised I could have it after 'a little while' but after hanging on his wall for months it finally disappeared and I never got it.

I've never seen it again in person, and I've actually searched eBay for it.

Excellent choice for a commission. Congrats!

Well done JB.
