Y'know, I come across this particular phrase a lot. Just for the sake of artistic accuracy, the black parts are shading or modeling. The white areas are the highlights.

The added blacks really do make Spider-Man stand out more. Nice!

It's surprising how the addition of the blacks transforms the piece in my eyes from an "homage" to a "tribute".

Just now scrolling thru this thread for the first time, when I saw the original commission I imagined how the red and dark blue of the costume would make Spider-Man pop out against the background.

Now that the commission has been up-dated, it doesn't need the color at all.

Fantastic work, BTW!

I can't tell because of it's size but did the original use a darker blue to shade Spider-man or is he just an overall dark blue?
