Great Kang...I love it!!!  I'm getting a real old-school vibe from this one...a little bit of Kirby and  little bit of Buscema.  Very nice!

Thanks! I'm not altogether displeased with that myself!

Funny thing, working on this one. I realized I have hardly ever drawn Kang. Probably less than half a dozen shots, total. And so he was not even remotely "internalized". I pulled out AVENGERS 8 to be sure I got the "pure" form of the outfit, but as I was laying in the pencils, starting (as I usually do) with the head/helmet, my pencil kept spiraling and spiraling outwards, as my brain told it "Bigger! Bigger!!"

Whoa...hold the phone.  You stayed on model?!?  Who is it that you think you are here, Mr. Byrne???  How ever do you expect to fit in with today's prima-donna culture?!?  You clearly should have protrayed the character as YOU envisioned him, not the character's creator!!!

Over the years, I have become increasingly convinced that these young punks straying off-model is less about their raging egos than it is about them being so frigging LAZY. They just don't want to do the necessary homework!

Great work - Kang is easily my favorite villain.

I love how his belt and helmet seem to have some dimension to them.

I've often been surprised that Kang isn't used more often in stories. He became the forgotten villain for a while. I was glad to read the other day that he'll be back in an arc of the Avengers soon.

Ye gods! That reads almost like a parody of everything that has gone wrong with Marvel!!!

Be careful what you wish for!

I just read that Kang is actually Nathaniel Richards. WTF? When did this happen? Since JB's story, I thought Kang was a Richards descendent.

That's what I intended, certainly. But over the past decade or so, the folk up at the House of Idea have made such a concerted effort to overturn everything I did, I am no longer able to convince myself it is pure paranoia to say it's all deliberate!

I realize it's been 20+ years since I was first introduced to the character and his aliases ( Rama Tut, Immortus) but when did all this other crap even happen? Damn.

And when did he stop being Immortus?

When did he become this alternate universe person?

Why do writers/ editors wnat to make shit as complicated as possible?

Wow.  Nice!  And a VERY heavy Buscema influence in the drawing as well.

And great commission, by the way. I love that left hand. Dammit, but I wish I could draw hands as well as you.

Again, I will invoke laziness. It it much, much, MUCH easer to simply add on stuff than to try to work within the frame of what already exists.
