Your ability to convey textures in just B&W is awesome, JB.

We've got smoke, lava, fire, shiny bits, and I can even smell the burnt hair that was on Wolverine's arms. Great job!

2,000th post!

John thanks for the great commission ! Love the battle between Phoenix and Magneto. Brings back fond memories of Uncanny 112. Some hair on Wolverines arms would be great. Thanks

Very good depictions of Magneto and Colossus here. Really looks like Colossus is springing forward from the foreshortening of his limbs and I also like the gleam around his 'hair'.

Banshee is so much better drawn here than on the original. On the commission, that face is so distinctly Sean Cassidy; on the original, it screams Bob Layton but not neccessarily Sean Cassidy.

I'll add my voice to the praise for how you've captured Nightcrawler teleporting -- as always you've got a gift for depicting everything at once in just one picture, which isn't easy.

Quoting Brett Wilson: "It's like looking back at the Gretzky era Oilers."

You are now officially my friend.

All those people who moan about JB's stuff looking different now than in the old days baffle me.  Yeah, he draws differently---he draws much better!

Excellent piece, JB, as always!

Definitely an improvement over the original...

••

Now it can be told…

In another thread, I mentioned being ordered by Shooter to redraw a cover I'd sent in that was different from the sketch I'd been sent. Without getting paid to do so. This was that cover.

The egregious change I'd made was to push the camera in closer, so that the figures were larger in the image. I thought the tiny figures looked very unexciting. I still do.

So, consider this piece something of a validation!
