I recall a moment from my early days at Marvel when a writer was telling me about this "great idea" for an Iceman miniseries in which he was transported to a "world of ice" where everybody and everything was ice. An early example of DC's penchant for "deuniquing" starting to find a home at Marvel.

••

Like Superman. . . and Superboy. . . and Supergirl. . . and Superdog. . . and Supercat. . . and Supermonkey. . . and the ONE BILLION inhabitants of Kandor. . .

Not to mention Batman. . . and Batwoman. . . and Batgirl. . . and Batgirl. . . and Batgirl. . . and Bathound. . . and Batmite. . .

And the Green Lantern Corps. . .

And Earth Two thu 3,754,982. . .

Marvel, fortunately, has been able to limit this fannish kind of indulgence for the most part, but it still happens. She-Hulk, at least as originally conceived, is a prime example.

Pre-Crisis Superman: "Oh, I feel so alone... let me go hang out with my cousin, who is not only from my home planet but is also a superhero like myself and can relate to the inherent stress of being impossibly powerful! Or better yet, I can beam down to the bottle city that is the New York of Krypton and experience what it's like to be 'normal' while also being an honored guest!"

I've said it before and I'll say it again, a "father" is not supposed to choose among his children, but this piece is still one of my favorites!

Found myself thinking about this piece again this morning, and clicked into this thread for another look. Surprised to find I did it only two years ago. I thought it was longer ago than that!

This is certainly a beautiful piece and I think I enjoy it
as much as the original.
