As a Canadian in all seriousness, this is just silly. Unless they make Superman Canadian, in which case it's totally awesome. He could even become our Prime Minister then, since we have no stipulation that the PM be born in Canada. Cheers, Jon

Reminds me of Superman in the 90s, when DC's story policy for the books became, "Do whatever you have to do to get the character mentioned on CNN." They're running out of gimmicks--death, funeral, return, engagement, mullet, marriage, new costume. I don't know why they just don't undo the marriage. Imagine how much sales a Divorce issue would generate.

It's a backup feature by someone who isn't currently writing Superman. The odds of anyone actually following up on that are next to nil.

It is a story that effectually removes Superman from politics. his isn't the simpler times of past. There is hardly anything media related where we don't have an issue force fed to us, or more accurtely where something media related isn't turned into a political issue. I am thinknig of something like Glee. Because they have a gay character, then they must have a gay agenda, right? (I know they don't, I am just sick of people making these claims.) So, until we have a cultural shift away from trying to integrate political agendas into any entertainment, I am fine with trying to move an icon away from political agendas.

NOTHING DC (or Marvel) does any more is "official". What it is is flailing about. It's more noise than signal now. It's more static than a story.

Does this even work anymore, though? I know gimmick storylines get the fanboys all worked up and generate a cheap sales bump through idiotic speculation/multiple copy buying. But do civilians really get sucked in by media coverage of this stuff? I'm curious if the folks who are dealers here actually notice an influx of civilians in the stores for issues like this?
