Very cool, the "diamond" around the necks is an improvement, Kurt definately looks more demonic without the hair, not really feeling Storm's mask though. Hmm not sure about Wolverine, amazing how distinguishing his helmet and face are, kinda gets lost in the crowd without them.

This is awesome! It's so much easier to recognise the characters in action than in the static group shot.  Love the way the direction of the poses draws the eye around the picture!

Interesting. When I did that piece originally, some time around 1980, I was struck by how instantly recognizable they all were, even just standing around. Only Wolverine might present a bit of a guessing game, if he was isolated -- but, fortunately, he's not!

I absolutely love everything about this piece!
I loved the 'original' since I was a kid too, I always felt it was a neat visual because I was so into JB's X-men and to see them in the black and yellow uniforms was a perfectly inspired idea.

As a matter of fact the original piece inspired me to use a similar idea.
About two years ago I posted this in the sketchbook thread:

Kind of in the animated style but definitely my homage to John Byrne's art.

Wow. It's truly ashamed that we didn't get to see this in the comic... at least
for a few issues!

******

Jim Lee tried to bring back the original costumes...or something resembling the original costumes back for a few issues:

I have to say though I like the JB version way more. Jim Lee seemed to forget that superheroes wear masks.

Jim Warden confirms that his email box is, indeed, "exploding" -- so I will be sending these his way tomorrow, in time to get on eBay for Xmas shopping.

Love it.
I have said it before and I will say it again, ever since I saw The Comic Reader cover; I love the seeing the New X-Men in the original school uniforms. Own identities and characteristics aside, it always made sense to me for them to be wearing them.
I bought that Comic Reader when it came out and I kept waiting to see  them in those uniforms in the comics.  But, it never happened.

I'm glad you're going the auction route. Reminds me of the days you sketched at shows.

What a fun piece. I love this concept. I look forward to bidding on this via eBay. Thanks for sharing.

Wow.  That is amazing.  I will be watching this on eBay as well.  If not to win at least to drive up the price on Greer!  =P

Well done, JB!
