Looking again at the piece, Wolverine is definitely may favorite, with Nightcrawler a close second (and Colossus a close third).

Some interesting differences I noticed between the older drawing and this new one: Storm's mask, of course, and the choice to use Cyclops's redesigned visor. Was that choice of visor done to mix old with the new? And showing Wolverine's claws seem like such a no-brainer to identify him that I am surprized I never took note of the original drawing's lack of the claws.

Very, very cool. It reminds me of a time when a friend and I are were discussing what various characters would look like if they had been created in a different vintage. The clear winner was the hypothetical '60s Wolverine with squared off Kirby fingers, with perhaps a W on his chest or belt.

••

The claws aren't really needed to identify Wolvering in such a limited group. Simple process of elimination -- especially given that all the other characters have some distinctive elements to their uniforms; Cyclops' visor, Storm's hair, Colossus' size and steel hide, Banshee's "wings" and, well, Nightcrawler's EVERYTHING!

Seeing Lars' color drawing got me curious. I borrowed the background colors from the original COMIC READER cover. . .

Pretty quick and dirty, but there it is!

Seeing it in color got me wondering if I should have left Colossus' neck bare.

Maybe fill in his sides black?

Fun drawing, it'll be interesting to see how high the auction goes for,
especially coming off the buzz from the 137 page recently selling for
60+ thousand!

Well done!! It made my day!!

Looking at it again I have to say I really like how Banshee looks here.  I think much better than the costume he had.  I am liking Wolverine a lot as well.  The more I look the more I like it.

Just made the mistake of checking the release date on that original COMIC READER cover. April 1979. 32 years ago. ARRRGHHH!!!!!!

My three would be Wolverine, Nightcrawler and Storm... in that order.

As long as we're playing with color and alternate realities, here's a real mix:

Those are the colors, as legend has it, that Kirby really intended.
