A second strong woman commission in a week, very nice.

Looking at the Doomsday + 1 #2 cover in the bit by bit thread makes me realize how far JB has come in his depiction of woman. The Scarlet Witch is coming across great, in a don't mess with me kind of way. I really appreciate that JB can make as strong a female hero as a male hero. Bravo!

On the subject of the two of them holding hands...

I had to be careful there, to make sure the interlaced fingers went in the right direction, and were of the right number! Carefully penciling those hands, I was reminded of the kerfuffle in fandom, and in the Marvel offices, when Dave Cockrum drew this in X-MEN 96:

Heads exploded around the world, and a legion of fans, eager to prove they ALREADY knew the characters better than the people working on the books, sent in a flood of mail chastising Dave for giving Kurt the wrong number of fingers.

Which, of course, he hadn't.

The amazing thing was, I stood in the office Dave then shared with Roger Stern and watched a female writer poke at him for drawing the wrong number of fingers, and even after I demonstrated what was happening, by curling back two fingers on each hand and interlacing the remaining four, she STILL didn't get it!

(BTW, "BRAP"? Did the demon have a whoopie-cushion stuck to its nose?}

That's a nice little bit of trivia (the Cockrum panel).  I wonder how many people ever realized that Nightcrawler had only three fingers on each hand?

     That being said, I miss the old Scarlet Witch.  She was a character that worked best when she wasn't messed up in the head.  Maybe a little, but those were driven by circumstances beyond her control.  I didn't like it when she was basically turned into God at the end of that one crossover in 2004.  ("No more mutants," really?)

     Like the determined expression on her.  I'd say that the bad guy who beat up her husband is about to find himself pinned to a wall by his 'nads.

Another fantastic piece! Loving the look of determination and ferocity in Wanda's face.

••

There seems a chance you are misunderstanding the problem. Fans did not get upset thinking Dave had drawn too FEW fingers, but too MANY.

I wonder if the colorist is to blame for the confusion arising from that Nightcrawler panel. The thumb of Nightcrawler's left hand is miscolored blue, visible just below his ear, while the small curved space just past his two interlaced hands is colored white. This makes it appear that Nightcrawler's left thumb is not visible while his index, middle, and ring finger are, possibly the "three fingers" some are seeing in that picture.

I didn't notice the hand holding at first. Very awesome and special touch!
