I like the She-Hulk/Cap splash best because of the inks!

As I said, the writing JB did during this run is some of my favorite stuff he's done... but there are some weak inks in most of those issues imho.

That Kang cover is so damn cool... I guess we would have gotten to go back in time in that AWC issue and experience that classic Avengers adventure from a different point-of-view?

Seeing the portrait splashes all together is really cool. Thanks for posting them! (And JB, thanks for drawing them!)

I like the published version best... but this is still cool...

The published one was really cool -- it was so much more dramatic and dynamic than the unused version, it had the reference to the last page splash from Man of Steel, and some really smart colouring.

The original art above showed up in the house ad announcing JB's run on West Coast Avengers, right?  I seem to remember four covers being shown, some teasers about the Vision...whatever it was, it got me really excited about issue #42.

I've been looking for it online, but haven't turned it up yet.  I'd bet it ran in West Coast Avengers #41, among other places.

Thanks for finding that!  Looks like some changes happened between the time the ad was assembled and the actual #46 (which introduced the Great Lakes Avengers).  The original Human Torch didn't come back until AWC #50.  JB, do you have any recollection of what turned "Vision Quest" from the five-part story depicted above into how it ultimately saw print?

I remember seeing the AWC on the shelf and so wanting to buy it because of the art but didn't have the money or time to start learning a whole new group of unfamiliar characters after having just started reading the X-books.
