J.B. It's a little detail I know but I really like it that you make many of the characters you draw smiling.•• In this case, the happy heroes were dictated by this being a "companion" piece to the AWC commission -- tho, as many have noticed, I do generally prefer to draw superheroes smiling. Tho there are, of course, plenty of instances where the mood of the scene mandated a different emotion! A note on the "smiling" Iron Man -- On the mask of this vintage, the mouth is just a horizontal rectangle, of course, but that does allow for a fair degree of "artistic license". Over the years, when I have had the opportunity to draw Iron Man, I have been surprised by just how much emotion it is possible to coax out of that "immobile" face. (One does have to be careful, mind you. I recall the period when it became fashionable to put shadows under the eye holes -- shadows that did not move or change in any way, no matter what the light source or position of the head -- which to me just made him look tired!)
