I wonder...was this a surprise commission for Dan or a birthday present to himself?

You never cease to amaze me JB. This just makes me wish for the good old days of Marvel comics.  The flow of it from Spidery down to the cat is just outstanding.

I don't know the exact details, except that I checked with Jim before posting, to make sure this was not a "surprise".

Observations on the large scan:

- Sue's face looks great!
- She-Hulk is excellently rendered
- Ben's courage and willingness to engage the much larger/stronger Hulk really shines through!
- I like the way Spider-Man's web is drawn

You can tell I love this commission by how many times I've been compelled to post in this thread already!

Technically and legally, of course, Marvel "owns" these
characters. But artistically, I daresay that John Byrne
owns the entire Marvel universe. There's no Marvel
character I've ever seen fall out of JB's pen that doesn't
look just right.

Now that's a birthday gift! Amazing work, JB. As always.

My favorite part is Ben vs Hulk with She-Hulk and Sue trying to intervene.

What a birthday present!!!  Congrats to Dan on hitting the big 40!

As always John, you have crafted another masterpiece!!!  I love everything about this.  One can never go wrong with the Hulk vs Thing and a Cap vs Red Skull battle, with Cap even smiling!

So much going on for me to decide what I like the best. And I'm fine with that. Just shows just how well JB knows these characters and how he presents them to anyone.

I'm just grateful that we get to see these commissions. I especially like JB including what the customers requested.

WOW! This one has just about everything but the kitchen sink.
You didn't draw a kitchen sink in there, did you?

Beautiful!

One of my smarter moves! Almost completely eliminates odd and sometimes annoying questions!

(As for instance, when I would occasionally put the FF in the costumes I gave them, in a scene where they were not originally wearing them, someone would invariably ask if that was my choice. I mean, seriously? On a commission piece costing $$$$$, I'd inflict my ego on the purchaser?)

Hm! Since I now include Barney Rubble only when requested, maybe I should start sneaking a kitchen sink into some of these battles! Of course, then people would start looking for THEM, as they did Barney, instead of looking at the work as a whole.

Never mind. . . .
