Great commission!  I love the skyline offsetting the filty alley, and wonderful figure work.

That's pretty awesome JB!

Is this similar to how you would do it for a published cover? Do all titles and text exist solely in a computer or is it a combination?

••

In the age of computers, logos and other cover dress are usually done as separate files, added to the covers after scanning. That's how I do my logos at IDW, for instance. (I assume they do the licensed logos the same way.)

I makes me think of when I was a kid, and I would copy covers out of the house ads. Of course, knowing no better I assumed the logos were part of the art, and dutifully copied them, too! (I actually imagined the artists doing the same thing, drawing the logos on the cover each time.)

I like trying to pick out parts of JBs art that, to my eye, is John Byrne style that is unique to him. On this commission it's "just" the two lines for the mouth/chin....

I've really gotten into the Golden Age over the last few years (disillusioned by the crap on the stands today).... a jaw-droppingly awesome piece!

Bill, as an artist who began to learn how to draw by copying JB's work,
I've discovered that when it comes to the trademarks of a John Byrne
face, it lies in the brow, mouth and chin. Those are very distinctive to
JB.

One thing I've always got from Mr. Byrne's Batman drawings (and it applies here) is that you manage to showcase Batman as a protector. When I see your Batman, I immediately know that the people of Gotham City are safe!

EDIT - Spelling.
