Yup. Of course it gets better. It gets better and one day you do it all again.
This is part of the deal. You get a best friend, and you get to share your life with them, and give them a wonderful life, and then say goodbye to them.
And they stay with you in your heart forever, but hopefully you'll one day be ready for another best friend to go through this all over again.

And it's wonderful.

My condolences, Lloyd. I've had to say good-bye to several of my kitties over the years and it's never easy. Rest in peace, Kringle.

17 years. You gave her a good life that most cats don't have a chance to experience. I'm sure if she could, she would say thank you.

Mike,

Those pictures are amazing (not sure why my eyes seem to be watering though). I'm sorry for your loss. Hang in there.

I'm sorry for your loss. I've been through it as well
and as hard as it was, you did the right thing.

For Lloyd and all of those who have lost their faithful animal companions:

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

So sorry to hear about your loss, Lloyd. We had to put our buddy, Rusty, to sleep over a year and a half ago. While we have two new cats that we love dearly, we still make some reference about Rusty every day. The pain does indeed fadeaway, but your memories and love for Kringlewill never go away.

Very sorry for your loss Lloyd . When a beloved pet leaves , the house seems so empty. You seem like a great pet owner , so hopefully you can begin again to change a pet's life with love.
