Well, now. The republicans I referenced on the last page that were all going-ho on Trump, most of them are veterans and most of those served in Vietnam. I haven't gotten to talk to them since his "hero" statement, but I'm looking forward to it.

If Trump runs as an independent, the Republicans will lose for sure. The country is too evenly divided.

I'm a teacher and I like Kasich. I've never considered taking on the teacher's union to be the same as attacking teachers. Early in my career, I was a member of my county's chapter of the NEA. I would get pamphlets suggesting who to vote for and the choices were always Democrats. Many of those people were elected over the years and they have done NOTHING for teachers. That's not to say any GOP candidates would have done any better but I consider most labor unions just another arm of the Democratic Party (at least in my state) so I don't take offense when governors butt heads with them.

The biggest problem with Kasich's views on teachers is that he doesn't think teachers need to take less pay because the government can't afford to pay them more. He believes teachers are overpaid, and don't deserve what they make. He also took on the fire and police unions. He lost. But he seems to have learned from it.
Scott Walker thinks he won, despite his state doing much worse than neighboring states now.
By the way, the OEA does recommend certain candidates, depending on their voting records and campaign promises. Most are Democrats, but not all. And I know Republican teachers who are big supporters of the union. It's nice to have representation. I worked at a non-union school once, and it was not a very nice working environment.

Trump is giving those voters what they want. This is the logical extension of where politics starting going as far back as Nixon. Don't appeal to the mind; appeal to the emotions, especially the negative ones.

I grew up in and around NY all my life and Trump has been saying the most ill-informed and insulting things since the late 80s.
I think most New Yorkers have been ignoring him for years now, we just say there he goes again seeking attention.
And I’m guessing the national media isn’t really used Trumps big mouth because I tune into CNN, MSNBC, and Fox and its 24/7 Trump.
Those networks don’t really report the news anymore and what a shame.
These three opinion networks have been rightfully attacking Trump for weeks now, what is surprising is Trumps poll numbers are now 24%, as Joe Zhang pointed out.
It seems like the more the media report and bash Trumps baseless comments the higher his poll numbers go. Could it be people hate the media more than Trump? Sure looks like it.
Trump just wants attention, he knows he has no shot at being president and I don’t even think he wants to be the president.
I think in time people around the country will realize what we New Yorkers and New Jerseyan’s think of Trump, him and his ugly buildings must go away!

Donald Trump is the World's Greatest Troll.
A key point from the above article:
Trump has taken trolling to the next level by being willing to offend members of his own party. Ordinarily, this would be a counterproductive strategy. In a 16-candidate field, however, you can be in first place with 15 or 20 percent of the vote — even if the other 80 or 85 percent of voters hate your guts. In the long run — as our experience with past trolls shows — Trump’s support will probably fade. Or at least, given his high unfavorable ratings, it will plateau, and other candidates will surpass him as the rest of the field consolidates.

DAVID: I'm fully supportive of Bernie Sanders.
Anyone else?
SER: My view is that if we want a president like Sanders, then we need to elect a Congress that is at least on the same planet as Sanders. The country isn't really run in a top-down manner where if a company is struggling, you bring in a new CEO who makes drastic changes, fires dead weight, hires new people, and so on. Sanders would be like a new CEO of McDonald's who wants to move to a vegetarian menu and most of the executives all outright oppose him and he has no ability to replace them.
Sanders has a record of voting against a lot of legislation, and he lives in a relatively safe state for him to hold the positions he does, but I don't know if there's any actual legislation we can point to that demonstrates the effect he's had on government and how he would improve things as chief executive.
Of course, I certainly respect the opinion that if the GOP and FOX News think Obama and Clinton (!) are socialists, then you might as well actually elect a socialist. If they see all opposition as basically Doctor Doom, there is no hope of finding common ground.
