I think  Garcia Lopexz is doing his best work now, and he is by far his own best inker.  I think a lot of editors may hesitate to let him ink himself, because he's not that slick, but when he does get the chance, he blows me away every time.  He is absolutely at the top of his game as far as his storytelling goes.

He's also a sweet, completely gracious guy.

I will certainly be picking up this from Twomorrows "Modern Masters # 5 Jose Luis Garcia Lopez"

****

I own the page which immediately precedes that one, with Superman and Lois dining in a rooftop restaurant.

The thing that always struck me as odd about that page is that Superman is on a date with Lois -- as Superman! Where's the whole "I must have a secret identity to protect my loved ones" concept? Not to mention, why wouldn't he throw on a suit and tie (especailly since he expresses concern that everyone is "staring" at them. Well, duh!)

The page, as with the rest of the story, is beautifully drawn, but the underlying concepts point up so much of what was wrong with DC and Superman at the time.

What issue number is the interior page from? Or is that the cover to the said issue?

thanks,
andy

PS. His Nexus issue was great also...I own a sweet page from it!

Andy

The interior page is from Superman 347. Same issue as the cover.

Sadly, from what I am told Garcia Lopez is not much interested in a regular superhero gig. He would much rather do a western/

See what's wrong with the current marketplace?

DC is starting up a Jonah Hex title again...

...and JLGL isn't on it.

Sad.

Based on the stuff I've seen on this forum, I'll definitely be getting the Modern Masters book on Garcia Lopez when it comes out. I hadn't heard about this new Jonah Hex series (which I assume will be a Vertigo book like Human Target or The Losers). The editors at Vertigo seem to finally be producing some slicker, more commercial books in less popular genres that have lain fallow for some time. They also seem more interested in stylish artwork and richer coloring.

You know, JB, if you haven't completely lost interest in that ol' Cameo mini-series that never happened, it would certainly be interesting to see a JB scripted, Garcia Lopez penciled, and Bill Sienkiewicz or Kevin Nowlan inked collaboration some time in the future. I'm confident the upcoming Donna Troy mini-series will turn a lot of heads.

Does anyone know whether Garcia Lopez has ever done any painted covers?
