I saw some great guests at the Calgary Expo, any I spoke to were patient and kind. I spoke to Jens Robinson for a time and I wish more people knew who he is and why he was at the Expo.

I spent some time with Joe Staton and his wife Hilarie and I must related how impressed I am with them. If everyone was even half as gracious and friendly as they are the world would be so much nicer.

Joe and Hilarie are THE nicest and most kind people at any con they
attend.

Back in Michigan for Motor City Con this weekend. I dropped by Vault of
Midnight in Ann Arbor, great selection of comics, graphic novels and obscure
stuff. I do miss Eye of Agamotto and Dave's Comics two great comic shops.
Eye of Agamotto is where I was exposed to Warren Publications like
Vampirella, Creepy and Eerie.
Was also at Greenfield Village, one of the most amazing places, love it as a kid
and still one of my favorite place. Its like walking back thru time. If you are ever
in the Detroit area check it out!

I guess when you do a lot of cons, they all blur together...

Indeed they do! A few decades back I gave up conventions for a while after I found myself telling a con story and realizing I could not remember if it took place in Boston or San Francisco. Those are not cities one should mix up!

Vis Don Rosa, he and I met in New York, circa 1974/75. We were among half a dozen or more people who shared a hotel room. I slept on the floor, but Don was on one of the twin beds. I guess he must have been one of the people actually paying for the room!

Went to my first con over the weekend. I think because it was Mother's Day it was dead--low attendance. Neal Adams and Mike Zeck were there, and no one was at their tables. I found the whole thing kind of disappointing and surreal at the same time.

My all-time strangest con appearance was in the Deep South -- I no longer remember the city. The event had been poorly publicized, and there were times when it genuinely seemed there were more guests than fans.

But that wasn't the weird part. O, no!

The hotel was also playing host to a beauty contest. Reel in those tongues, boys! It was one of those ghastly children's beauty contests, so the halls were full of little girls with big hair and lots of makeup. Picture it if you can -- fans in their official convention uniforms of knee shorts and unwashed Wolverine t-shirts stumbling thru these Munchkin-sized versions of Scarlet O'Hara.

Not a Con,but my under-attended story ends in disappointment...late 80`s and due to a breakfast television strike, the 60`s Batman was very popular after being used as a schedule filler,i was on my half day off work and decided to go comic shopping in Birmingham,i walked into the Virgin Megastore which had a comic concession(Fantastic Store) and saw a lone Adam West sitting behind a table,i rushed to the comic concession to buy anything Batman related to get signed,i settled on Year One in hardback and raced to the part of the store were Mr West was, only to find the table and Mr West gone aaaaargh! There had been no,publicity to say he was there, and if i`d known i`d have taken something from home to get signed, and got there earlier!

Well, here's hoping that Paul remembers to wear his hair big.

Ottawa comic con this weekend. I know most of the JBF isn't targeting this show, but with the exception of me and possibly Steven Legge, is anyone else attending?

I'm still a little on the broke side from East Coast Comicon to attend the Ottawa con, I'm afraid. Besides, my wife is having a little surgery Friday so I think I'll be needed around the house on the weekend.
