Thanks, Brian!  I just looked it up--he was inked by P. Craig Russell?!?  I definitely have to track that down!

That issue of Thor is great.

This beauty just came in the mail. About to tear it open and let my eyes devour it.

Received my copy. GAH!! Horrible printing! Looks like it was shot from xeroxes. And flat color on gloss paper!!! YUK.

I thought DC had figured this out when they did the FOURTH WORLD books.

Major disappointment!

(A tickle of memory hints that I may actually have bought this before, and been equally horrified. Which would be why it's not on my bookshelf.)

Yeah, I really wanted a better printing of the Superman vs Wonder Woman story because my Tabloid edition is showing it's age but that TPB reminded me why I stopped buying DC's TPBs sight unseen.

I seem to recall reading that big John agreed with you about his preference for sword & sorcery over super hero art. I cannot think of other genres into which he dabbled (e.g., sci-fi, western, war, etc.) - but I also rank him high enough that I cannot imagine him drawing ANYTHING that wasn't desirable and collectible.

+++++++++++++++++

He did draw some Marvel horror and romance stories in the 60s.

I was a bit disappointed at the printing, too. That review I posted praised the high-quality of the printing with the exception of one story, but that doesn't seem to be the case at all. Granted, I've seen worse, but this material deserved better. Still, printing issues aside, I was seeing some of these stories for the first time as this is the first time some of them have been reprinted and one thing that struck me was Garcia-Lopez' growth as an artist from the first issue reprinted in the collection to the Deadman story, which is just beautiful.
