There's a lot of confusion when it comes to satire.
FAWLTY TOWERS was recently pulled from all UK channels
due to the 'Germans' episode.
For those unfamiliar, it features an elderly Major
character using all manner of ethnic slurs in one
scene, so (predictably in the current climate) the show
was pulled.
The joke, of course satirises upper class bigotry - the
character is racist. The show is not.
Perversely, it's absolutely fine to denigrate and mock
Germans in the show - no furore over that.

So, my daughter got back home last night from going out to eat with
one of her best friends. She was explaining how her friend is the total
opposite of her parents politically. Apparently, they're YUGE Trump
supporters. Well, her mom is so stressed out by the Black Lives Matter
movement that she wants to get a machine gun and kill all the blacks
so she doesn't have to deal with them anymore. And this person is a
first grade teacher in our school system. Her dad teaches seventh
grade science at one of the middle schools here. Apparently, he shares
mom's views but isn't as vocal as she is. And we've done stuff socially
with these people. This has disturbed me quite a bit. Thank Odin their
kid has more sense than they do.

Brian, seems to be a common sentiment. More frightening is when people with guns have these mass shooting fantasies:
Very strange that some think the solution to racism is to start racial cleansing.

Trump is saying crap about statues of Jesus are going to be the next targets... that's how you get from some old stereotype pancake marketing character or a confederate 'icon' toppled to nothing to do with that I suppose. How many statues of 'Jesus' are there in the U.S. anyway outside church grounds... but then I suppose if reality mattered... well, he'd look middle eastern and not anything like a caucasian Robin Hood in the blue and pink baby blankets.
No idea where things go from this kind of junk. I can't imagine how there is any legitimate other side to a statement like black lives matter. There should've just been a resounding yes.
