Everything about these pages INSPIRES!
I could read them over and over, all day, every day.

Once again, I find myself going over all the detail, particularly the little nuances with faces, with each new page.

 ** Agree Matt.
JB, when drawing a team, does your "muscle memory" know each character (out of costume) or do you use references?

Probably the "open" hair. When Jean became Dark Phoenix I darkened her hair and, even after the "lobotomy" left it that way as a (hopefully) subtle indicator that the story was not yet over.
Elsewhen is going in some different directions from what would have followed 137 without Shooter's interference, but the light/dark hair will still play an important role as a visual marker.

With a lesser craftsman, this would have been chalked up to inconsistency. I should have know there was a reason behind the difference. That attention to detail and contemplation is what makes this work so special.
That famous Jean-post-lobotomy opening from Phoenix The Untold Story had the "open" hair. Perhaps an indication that her story was over?

That last panel of Phoenix is just... wow... love the "throw-back" to the original uniform details with the smaller phoenix and the line down the front.

Love that Cyclops and Storm are reminiscent of the late great Dave Cockrum's rendering from #101. Respect!

Some serious time travel on page two. Love it! And especially, as Michael noted, the homage to Mr. Cockrum's work on Uncannny X-Men #101.

Incredible. 40 years later, and I'm only just now noticing this!
