Thing about the Legion, there were so many different characters there
were bound to be one or two I liked. I'm not very impressed by DC's
handling of it. It seems every time they want to "fix" it, the answer
is to make the book even darker.

I find it difficult to tell the difference between when you're enjoying a project and when you're not.*** I'll take that as a compliment! (I find constant fascination and frustration in the Wise Ones who claim to be able to tell -- of any artist, not just me -- the circumstances under which the work was produced. As if it anything can really be told about how a page came to be, after it's been thru the inking, coloring and printing processes!)

The Legion was the first group that I ever followed with any kind of
passion as a young collector (my golden age of 12-13). This would have
been the Mike Grell years.
Favorite characters? Initially, it was Ultra Boy, Timber Wolf, Shadow Lass,
Mon-El, Cosmic Boy, Chameleon Boy and Wildfire. Characters introduced
as I was reading would include Quislet and Tellus (I liked the fact that
they were non-humanoid aliens).
I haven't enjoyed reading the Legion since, oh, sometime shortly after
Steve Lightle stopped drawing the book, though I did initially like the
post-Zero Hour reboot. That ended quickly.
Every issue of this new series I consider as "on the bubble," and this last
issue will probably be my last.

I should've explained when I posted the pic. To me it's not ness JB that does the Legion, it's the Legion that's in the pic though. Back to the basics without some of the bs they've done with the Legion in the past 10-15 years.

I love the Shooter/Swan ADVENTURE era and the Levitz/Giffen era equally,
but those are my favorites. Hope DC does a Legion SHOWCASE volume --
the Legion archives are just a little too expensive for me right now.

In last year's Legion issue of Back Issue, both Grell and Cockrum said that
they would love to revisit the Legion and draw another story. I wish DC
would get off their ass and make that happen.
And if they could just get the great James Sherman to do one as well.

I thought James Sherman died a few years back. Is he still around? I know he
doesn't do comics anymore and hasn't since he stopped working on LSH.

Whenever the issue of whether JB was enjoying the page in front of him comes up, all I have to remember is he didn't get a kick out of doing Alpha Flight - and I think that stuff is nearly as good as his Fantastic Four, and better than his X-Men!

JB,
I would love it if you did a monthly LSH, however do you think you would make a good fit to work on the Legion? I would think not having a great fondness for a team or character would make it easier to come up with story ideas without the baggage from the past.

Actually he did Steelgrip Starkey in the mid-late 80s and then went into
commercial art. He even designed the logo for Major League Baseball that
has been used over the past decade. Perhaps he has died since then... if so,
I haven't heard.

Gee, JB, for someone that doesn't like the Legion, you sure draw them
up real nice. Personally, I think you should do a Superboy story
wherein he he turns the tables on the Legion and puts 'em in their
place. Snot-nose punks.
