Golgotha - coolest villain (and villain name) introduced in the last 20
years!

No. Do you "snip" the ends? As with regular
brushes, I use an X-Acto knife to take of the very, very,
very tip of the nib. Gives more control.

_____

Ah - did THAT make a light bulb go off in my head! Do you know how long I've wondered how inkers get so much control out of a brush, when, for me, the tip always seems to go willy-nilly? This is a major revelation for me. Can't wait to try it.

Thanks for the "tip" JB!

Incredible.  Amazes me that there isn't a bidding war for JB's services at the big two.  Who else can do quality work like this in quantity.  I understand personalities are involved but at some point heads of companies need to use their eyes and brains and stop making personal personnel decisions.  In my opinion anyway.  Maybe I'd started spending most of my disposable income on comics again.

Except that JB has two very unfortunate flaws. He neither conforms nor obeys to the demands of fandom.

My only demand is to be entertained.  That rarely happens now in comics.  If I want reality I'll watch the news or read a paper.  I need creators who understand the basic tenets of the characters I've "known" since my childhood.  I don't need adult language and sex in my comics.  Wolverine saying flaming was/is graphic enough for me.  I have a 1 year old son.  I've gotten some Superman toys for him.  I have the complete animated Batman in sealed DVDs for when he is old enough but I'm not sure comics will be a viable hobby for us to share when he gets older and that really bothers me.  I really hoped it would be.  I can share my old collection with him but I wanted to share it all.  The anticipation month to month.  Seeing the new books on the new book rack.  That may now be a pipe dream.  I don't need JB to conform to or obey the fans demands.  He knows more about these universes than I or they can ever hope to.  Ah well, life is ripe with disappointments.

Terrific commission, powerful depiction of Captain America.  What's noticeable to me in seeing these large pieces in black and white is your masterful ability, equal to what you put in, is what you leave out.

Isn't the Marvel thing by JB's choice? I thought he said he wouldn't work there until Joe Quesada is gone. I'm not in love with Marvel at the moment, but you can't lay John not getting work there at their feet. Both sides need to come forward and make amends IMO, because both sides have said some nasty, unprofessional things about the other.

I don't see why they don't - it'd make a huge buzz.

The things I really like in this one are the mecanical and electronical elements as decoration backgrounds... They look historically accurate, the attention to those kind of details really make the whole scene more believeable.

Mister B., did you look at some old photos of the 40's to do those reference elements ?

Brett,

I'm not really interested why JB does or doesn't get along with any particular "regime" at the moment.  I understand the reality is that personalities play into these things but if I were in a position of authority at either of the big 2 my main concern would be quality of work.  Looking at the recent commissions I cannot see how either company's head can not be utilizing JB's abilities.  I don't care to criticize other's work in particular but most current art, IMO, pales in comparison.  When you are the man in charge your personal considerations need to (or at least should) take 2nd place to the good of the company.
